Indigenous leaders from the Americas and New Zealand

Designing a transnational indigenous leaders interaction in the context of globalization

Forty Indigenous leaders from the Americas and New Zealand and several non-Indigenous experts participated in a Wisdom of the People Forum (Co-Laboratory of Democracy) held in Washing DC from Sept. 16-18, 2002.

The three-day Forum was a collaborative effort involving Americans for Indian Opportunity (AIO), the Advancement of Maori Opportunity (AMO), and the Institute for 21st Century Agoras. It was wholly funded by AIO through a grant from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation. The group examined the current situation of transnational Indigenous leadership interaction and identified effective ways to enhance those interactions in the context of globalization.

AIO hopes to conduct Wisdom of the People Forums in El Salvador and Morocco in the next two years. In addition, they invite their brothers and sisters from all over the world to Crete, Greece, July 7-11, 2003 for a global Wisdom of the People Forum, which will consolidate global Indigenous strategy.
